CLINICAL IMAGING INFORMATICS PROGRAMMER
Location: Remote (US East Coast or UK/Europe Offshore)
Pay Rate: $75.00 – $100.00 per hour
Hours: Full-Time (Must align fully with UK/GMT working hours)
Duration: Contract / Independent Contractor
Summary Our client in the pharma industry is seeking a highly skilled data and software engineer to manage specialized data systems within a regulated medical research environment. In this role, you will bridge the gap between complex medical imaging data and actionable clinical insights by building robust processing pipelines and interactive dashboards. This is a brilliant opportunity to own end-to-end data infrastructure while directly supporting cutting-edge clinical workflows.
Description – Clinical Imaging Informatics Programmer
  • Design, build, and optimize MS SQL Server databases (data modeling, indexing, stored procedures, performance tuning, backup/restore) for clinical imaging informatics workloads.
  • Develop reliable ETL and automation tools (validation rules, audit trails, monitoring/alerts, data-quality metrics) to deliver accurate, traceable data to dashboards and downstream pipelines.
  • Build Python applications and web dashboards (Dash/Flask) that translate operational and research needs into usable tools for clinical and technical stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain medical image-processing pipelines in Python (batch processing, QC checks, provenance/metadata capture) using DICOM/NIfTI formats and libraries such as pydicom, nibabel, SimpleITK, and scikit-image.
  • Apply modern software engineering practices (clean code, packaging, unit/integration tests, logging, versioning) to improve reliability and maintainability in production environments.
  • Collaborate in Git/Bitbucket utilizing peer reviews and modern branching strategies.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Bitbucket Pipelines or GitHub Actions) to automate testing, linting, and infrastructure deployments.
  • Containerize and deploy microservices with Docker to ensure reproducible environments across development, validation, and production environments.
Qualifications – Clinical Imaging Informatics Programmer
  • Proven experience as an independent worker managing advanced database engineering, specifically with MS SQL Server optimization, indexing, and stored procedures.
  • Strong proficiency in Python development, including experience building web applications or dashboards using frameworks like Flask or Dash.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience handling medical imaging formats (DICOM, NIfTI) and utilizing dedicated processing libraries (pydicom, nibabel, SimpleITK, or scikit-image).
  • Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices, including version control (Git/Bitbucket), containerization (Docker), and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Prior experience working within regulated clinical or healthcare settings, with a firm understanding of protecting PHI under HIPAA and GDPR compliance frameworks.
  • Capability to provide production support, including incident triage, root-cause analysis, and systematic remediation.
  • Must be reliably available to work full-time hours aligned with the UK time zone (GMT/BST), whether operating from the US East Coast or an offshore region.
Benefits
  • Competitive compensation of $75.00 – $100.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
  • Convenient fully remote working arrangement.
  • Flexible independent contractor engagement structure.
